Data School Bootcamp

The Data School is an intensive 5-day program designed to immerse participants in the core principles and practices of data science. Through a combination of interactive lectures, hands-on workshops with real-world datasets, and group projects supported by experienced mentors, attendees develop practical skills in data processing, visualization, statistical modeling, and machine learning. The program is structured to provide a balance of theory and application, culminating in a data-hackathon on the final day where participants tackle one of three real-world data challenges. Oxford Data School focuses not only on technical skills but also on building critical thinking around data, addressing common pitfalls, and helping participants advance their research and professional workflows with a strong foundation in data literacy.

    • Welcome and Opening. Intro to python and data processing (day 1)

    • Data Visualisation (day 2)

    • Statistics and regression modelling (day 3)

    • Machine Learning (day 4)

    • Data-hackathon (day 5)

      • Solve challenges in teams in a simulated real-world data challenge!

      • Multiple relevant data challenges to choose from.

      • Work in teams to solidify concepts and skills acquired during first 4 days. Our demonstrators will support you throughout.

    • Raise awareness of strengths and weaknesses of machine learning models and using AI in data analysis workflows

    The Data School is set up in a way that introduces everyone to the basics of programming on the first day. Beginners will learn the basics and do some hands-on experimentation with guidance, while participants with some experience will be able to see best practices, utilise their knowledge and do some additional magic on really cool datasets.

  • Widely considered as one of the best programming languages for beginners, Python is a general purpose language that is currently the best choice for data science and machine learning applications. During the first day, we will walk you through the basics of this language and how to use it to solve data science tasks.
